When you try to close a position entirely (Close all) in spot margin trading, you may encounter a situation where the position cannot be fully closed. This occurs because the position has liability or interest.

In cross margin mode

  • When you use the quote currency as margin to open long position, the position assets = available assets.

  • When you use the trade currency as margin to open a short position, the position assets = available assets.

For example: BTC/USDT, where BTC is the trade currency and USDT is the quote currency:

When you close a position with a limit order, the closing is based on the available assets. If you're at a loss and you proceed to select Close all, you may not be able to pay off your liability, which means you can't fully close the position.

In isolated margin mode

Position assets = quantities bought + margin balance.

You can close the position fully(Close All) as the loss will be reflected on the margin balance.

FAQ

Why can I only sell part of the assets in my margin account?

If you’re unable to sell your full balance in margin trading, it may be due to the following reasons:

1. Price limit rule

In margin trading, the estimated execution price of your order can’t be lower than 95% of the best bid price.

If your sell price is below this limit, the order may be restricted or canceled. This rule is designed to reduce the impact of extreme price fluctuations.

Please check whether your order price meets the platform’s limit order requirements.

2. Leverage and position tier limits

In margin trading, the maximum borrowable amount is determined by position tiers.

When you set a higher leverage level, the maximum borrowable amount may decrease. As a result, even if your account shows sufficient assets, your leverage setting may limit the actual quantity available for selling.

Please review your leverage level and position tier settings before placing the order.
